Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed flights from 16 different regions around the world are currently operating to the Maldives.
Since the Maldives reopened its borders on July 15, more than three months after borders were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, several international airlines have resumed operations to the Maldives. As a result, several regions around the world are once again connected to the Maldives.
As per the statistics of MACL, regions with flight operations to the Maldives include 6 cities of India, which includes New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Cochin and Trivandrum. In addition, flights from Colombo, Sri Lanka and Dhaka, Bangladesh are also travelling to the Maldives.
Meanwhile, four regions in the Middle East also have direct flight connections to the Maldives. This includes Dubai and Abu Dhabhi in the UAE as well as Doha, Qatar and Istanbul, Turkey. In addition, four countries from Europe are also connected to the Maldives, including Russia, Germany, Switzerland and the UK.
14 international airlines have resumed operations to the Maldives since the country reopened its borders in July. Ministry of Tourism revealed a further 10 airlines have decided to resume operations to the Maldives before the end of December. This includes Alitalia, Air France, Ukraine International Airlines and Gulf Air, among others.
Statistics of the tourism ministry revealed 67,564 tourists have visited the Maldives since borders were reopened. The total number of tourist arrivals in the Maldives in 2020 is over 450,000, including the numbers recorded before the lockdown.
