Ministry of Tourism has revealed only 0.2% of tourists have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives since the country reopened its borders in July.
Speaking at a press conference, Senior Executive Director at Ministry of Tourism Ali Razzan said while over 100,000 tourists have visited the Maldives since border reopening, only 228 tourists have tested positive for COVID-19. Noting this represents just 0.2% of all arrivals, Razzan said a low positivity rate was maintained with the hard work of the management and staff of tourist facilities. He called on all tourist facilities to keep up the exemplary work and continue adhering to the health and safety guidelines set by Health Protection Agency (HPA).
Maldives reopened its borders for tourists on July 15, more than three months after borders were closed due to COVID-19. Tourist arrivals have been increasing steadily since the reopening of borders, with several international airlines resuming operations to the Maldives.
