IGMH resumes transfer of samples abroad for testing

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has resumed the transfer of samples abroad for laboratory tests which are not available in the Maldives.

IGMH had suspended the transfer of samples abroad due to the closing of international borders amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The hospital informed that the service has been resumed starting from December 15, due to increased requests. However, the hospital said it would only be transferring samples of certain conditions for now.

Samples sent abroad are usually tested in the Sisco Research Laboratories (SRL) of India. Such samples are sent to conduct tests which cannot be conducted in the Maldives.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, IGMH sent an average of 20-40 samples abroad for testing every day.
