The National Occupational Safety and Health Campaign has been launched in the Maldives.
The campaign is a joint collaboration by Ministry of Health, Health Protection Agency (HPA), World Health Organisation (WHO), Public Interest Law Centre and the Centre for Occupational Safety and Health. The campaign was officially inaugurated by Male’ City Mayor Sifa Mohamed during a special ceremony held at Dharubaaruge on December 19. The slogan for the campaign is Break The Silence, Everyone Has A Role To Play.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, HPA Director Aminath Shaufa said the campaign will boost the efforts to ensure workplaces are safe for employees and create a better work environment. She noted several awareness programmes will be conducted for workers under the campaign, including sessions on first aid and fire safety.
Speaking at the ceremony, State Minister of Health Dr. Shah Abdulla Mahir said the campaign, which is jointly conducted by several authorities and institutions, will help to establish strong and effective mechanisms to mitigate risks to health and safety at the workplace. He expressed confidence the campaign will help to implement the occupational health and safety regulations which are already in place.
The National Occupational Health and Safety Campaign will run until the end of next year.
