Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has stated reopening of Sri Lankan borders will benefit the Maldivian tourism industry.
In a tweet posted following the reopening of Sri Lankan borders, the tourism minister stated the decision to reopen borders would help boost dual destination and regional tourism. He also noted the announcement of resuming the operations of Sri Lankan Airlines between London and the Maldives from February 13 onwards is another promising development.
Sri Lanka has reopened its borders for tourists on January 21, over 10 months after the country closed borders due to COVID-19. As per the guidelines set by the Sri Lankan government, tourists arriving in the country must present a negative PCR test conducted 96 hours before arrival and have COVID-19 insurance. Tourists are also required to book their accommodation from facilities deemed safe by the Sri Lankan government.
