Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has extended the curfew hours in the Greater Male’ Region and announced new measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.
As per the measures announced on February 2, a vehicle curfew has been imposed in the Male’ Region from 2030hrs till 0430hrs, effective for two weeks starting from February 3. Meanwhile, a total curfew has been imposed from 2300hrs till 0430hrs, also effective for two weeks starting from February 3.
HEOC has also mandated all individuals travelling from the Male’ Region to other islands for essential services to undergo a PCR test 72 hours before departure. HEOC has also mandated face masks to be worn in public in all inhabited islands across the Maldives.
Furthermore, HEOC has announced preschools, nurseries and daycare centers will be closed for the next two weeks. Colleges and universities are required to conduct their classes online during this period, with an exception allowed for practical sessions which must be conducted in accordance to HPA guidelines.
Other measures announced by HEOC includes closing of all parks for two weeks. However, parks and spaces allocated for exercise will be opened for certain hours as permitted by HEOC. Meanwhile, all sporting events will be suspended for two weeks.
HEOC has further instructed government offices to revert to working from home wherever possible and to provide services online. Offices have been instructed to adhere to HPA guidelines in conducting their operations.
