BroadCom calls for responsible reporting of information on vaccines

Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom) has called on the press to be more responsible in conveying information to the public regarding the COVID-19 vaccine.

In a statement released on February 1, BroadCom urged the press not to report misinformation and unverified claims on the COVID-19 vaccine that could create public concern on vaccination. BroadCom called on all broadcasters to be more responsible in reporting such content, and asked to verify any such information with relevant authorities and professionals before broadcasting it. BroadCom said it will be closely monitoring the information conveyed by the press regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, and will be taking action against any content which violates the broadcast regulations.

Since the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine in the Maldives, there has been a wide range of conflicting information circulating on both broadcast and social media. The public has been urged to verify the source and validity of any such information before spreading it.
