Another 134 new COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed the detection of 134 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives on February 4.

As per the latest statistics of HPA, 134 new cases were detected in the Maldives between 1800hrs on February 3 and 1800hrs on February 4. This includes 110 cases from the Greater Male’ Region, 9 cases from inhabited islands in atolls, 13 cases from operational resorts, 1 case from non-operational resorts and 1 case from industrial islands.

With the latest update, the total number of cases reported in the Maldives has risen to 16,410, including 1,930 active cases. There are currently 178 COVID-19 patients undergoing treatment in hospitals or medical facilities. A total of 54 people have passed away from COVID-19 in the Maldives, including 46 locals and 8 expatriates.

COVID-19 cases in the Maldives have increased sharply since the beginning of January. As part of efforts to contain the spread of the disease, HPA has tightened restrictions in the Maldives, with curfews imposed in the Male’ region. HPA has requested the public to follow the instructions from authorities and to strictly observe personal safety measures in order to avoid the healthcare system from getting overloaded.
