Health Protection Agency (HPA) has placed Addu City and Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll under monitoring following the detection of COVID-19 cases.
HPA placed Addu under monitoring after two cases were detected from Hithadhoo ward on February 6. HPA had previously placed Addu City’s Hulhumeedhoo under monitoring, after several people the ward tested positive for COVID-19. So far, 28 people have tested positive for COVID-19 from Hulhumeedhoo.
Further, HPA placed Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll under monitoring on February 6, after a direct contact of the Addu cluster tested positive in Thinadhoo. Contact tracing is currently underway in the island.
COVID-19 cases have increased sharply in the Maldives since the beginning of last month. Currently, there are over 2,000 active cases in the country.
