Maldives records 56th COVID-19 death

Health Protection Agency (HPA) confirms the 56th COVID-19 related death in the Maldives.

HPA revealed a 77-year-old Maldivian man admitted in the Gaafu Alifu Atoll COVID-19 Management Facility passed away at 0948hrs on February 9. This is the eighth individual who passed away from COVID-19 in the Maldives this year. It is also the first death recorded from outside the Greater Male’ area.

So far, a total of 56 people have passed away from COVID-19 in the Maldives. This includes 48 Maldivians and 8 expatriates.

The situation of COVID-19 has begun to worsen in the Maldives, with the number of patients hospitalised after contracting Covid-19 increasing at an alarming rate. According to statistics, over 200 patients are undergoing treatment in various facilities.

HPA revealed an additional 126 cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Maldives on February 8. There are currently over 2,000 active cases in the country.
