HPA bans gatherings of more than 10 people in Greater Male’ Region

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has banned gatherings of more than 10 people in the Greater Male’ Region.

As per the circular signed by Director General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru and published on February 12, the maximum number of people who can gather in a public space in the Male’ area is 10. Gatherings of more than 10 people will only be allowed under special circumstances, as permitted and instructed by HPA. The circular stated the order will be enforced and monitored by Maldives Police Service (MPS).

HPA has tightened restrictions in the Greater Male’ area once again, following a new wave of COVID-19 cases in the country. As such, effective from February 12, a vehicle ban has been imposed in the capital from 1800hrs until 0600hrs. However, individuals are allowed to be out on foot until 2300hrs.

Daily number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives have been alarmingly high for the past one month. There are currently over 2,300 active cases across the country.
