Movement restrictions in Addu extended for another 7 days

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has extended the movement restrictions in Addu City for another 7 days due to the continued detection of COVID-19 cases in the city.

Addu City was placed under monitoring on February 6 after two COVID-19 clusters were formed in the city. Entry and exit was banned in the city, while movement between wards was also prohibited, with exceptions made for essential trips. HPA announced on February 16 that the movement restrictions have been extended until February 23.

So far, a total of 63 COVID-19 cases have been reported from Addu. All cases have been reported from clusters formed in the MTCC site in Hulhumeedhoo and the Addu Aviation Command in the connected wards. As no random sample has tested positive yet, a community spread situation has not been declared in Addu.

Meanwhile, HPA has lifted the monitoring status from Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll after 10 days. Thinadhoo was placed under monitoring on February 6 after 4 cases were detected from the island. Over 800 samples have been tested from the island, with only one random sample testing positive. Monitoring status was lifted after all samples taken from contacts of positive cases had tested negative.
