Ministry of Tourism has requested tourist facilities across the Maldives to take extra precautions for the safety of tourists and staff at the facility.
In a circular sent to all resorts, safaris, hotels and guesthouses, the tourism ministry urged the facilities to take extra care for the safety of tourists and staff, especially in activities such as snorkeling and water sports. The ministry requested the facilities to ensure all water sports facilities have the necessary resources to fully implement its safety plans.
The tourism ministry further stated it is crucial that safety of tourists and staff are not compromised, especially as the Maldives is popular around the world as a safe travel destination. The ministry called for the cooperation of all in recovering the tourism industry which has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The tourism ministry’s call for enhanced safety comes after a tourist went missing from a resort while snorkeling. Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has been conducting a search operation for the missing tourist since February 13.
