Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has revealed the current surge of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has seen more young people falling seriously ill due to COVID-19.
Speaking at a press conference, Spokesperson of HEOC Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq said there is a false perception in the community that there is no danger of COVID-19 to young people. However, she said there is an increasing number of young people falling ill and requiring hospitalization after contracting COVID-19, amid the current surge of cases in the Maldives. She called on the youth to be wary of the disease, and to take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the disease.
Speaking further, Dr. Nazla said some of the recovered COVID-19 patients are also suffering permanent after-effects of the disease. Therefore, she urged the public not to take the disease lightly and to fulfill the individual responsibility of each to mitigate the risk of spreading the disease.
