Restrictions imposed in Fuvahmulah extended to a further 7 days

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has extended the restrictions imposed in Fuvahmulah City to a further 7 days, due to the continued spread of COVID-19 in the city.

HPA had imposed restrictions in Fuvahmulah on February 12, due to the detection of multiple COVID-19 cases in the city. This includes banning of parties, ceremonies and gatherings, as well as a curfew running from 2000hrs until 0400hrs every day. Non-essential travels between different wards of the city were banned, while gatherings of more than 3 people were also banned in public spaces. Salons and gyms were ordered to be closed, while dine-in services were banned in cafes and restaurants.

The restrictions imposed in Fuvahmulah were due to expire on February 26. However, HPA has decided to extend the restrictions to a further 7 days as cases continue to be reported in the city.

COVID-19 has been spreading rapidly in the Maldives since the beginning of this year. Although the majority of cases have been reported from the Greater Male’ Region, number of cases reported from the atolls have also increased lately especially with the COVID-19 clusters formed in the southern atolls.
