Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has lifted monitoring status in Dhevvadhoo, Gaafu Alifu Atoll.
Dhevvadhoo was placed under monitoring on December 23 last year, after several COVID-19 cases were reported in the island. A total of 85 cases were reported from the COVID-19 cluster formed in Dhevvadhoo, some of which were reported from nearby Dhaandhoo and Villingili as well as Fonadhoo in Laamu Atoll. HEOC revealed the monitoring status was lifted from Dhevvadhoo after all contacts of positive cases in the island tested negative for COVID-19.
Dhevvadhoo cluster was one of the multiple clusters formed towards the end of last year that began a new surge of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives. Daily number of cases in the Maldives have been above 100 for nearly two months. HEOC said the last two weeks had seen an unprecedented increase in COVID-19 cases in the Maldives.
