Health Protection Agency (HPA) has started administering the second dose of Covishield vaccine, for those who received their first dose between February 1 and 4.
HPA is administering the second dose at vaccination centres established in the Greater Male' Region. As such, vaccination will take place at the Social Centre and National Arts Gallery in Male', as well as Hulhumale' Flu Clinic and Villimale' Social Centre.
Individuals who wish to receive their second dose must present their vaccination card, along with their identification document, at the vaccination centre. Those who display symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in contact with others infected with the virus are not allowed inside the centres.
Maldives began administering COVID-19 vaccines on February 1 using the Covishield vaccine, which was granted to the country by India. The second dose of Covishield is to be taken 8 to 12 weeks after the first dose.
Over 241,000 people have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in the Maldives, with most of the population receiving the Covishield vaccine. HPA began administering China's Sinopharm vaccine on March 22, which is currently only available in the Greater Male' Area. HPA has stated it is also preparing to administer the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, but only for those with low immunity.
