Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced the coastal protection project in Meedhoo, Addu City.
The project was officially inaugurated during a ceremony held in Meedhoo on April 3. The ceremony was attended by Minister of State for National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Shifaz Ali, CEO of MTCC Adam Azim and Parliamentarian Rozaina Adam.
The project was contracted to MTCC on August 19, 2020 and the physical works of the coastal protection structures commenced on February 25, 2021. The project includes backfilling and bed preparation of 1,848 cubic metres and construction of a 210-metre geobag revetment.
Speaking at the ceremony, CEO Azim stated MTCC is currently undertaking projects that were neglected for long periods, although completion of such projects are important for the public. He revealed the aim of MTCC is to complete the projects contracted to the company as early as possible.
The coastal protection project in Meedhoo was launched to temporarily solve the soil erosion issues faced by the island. MTCC aims to complete the project within 45 days.
