President receives second dose of COVID-19 vaccine

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has received his second dose of Covishield COVID-19 vaccine. He received the second dose of the vaccine on April 5, at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE).

In his tweet announcing that he had received the second dose, President Solih urged everyone to get inoculated at the earliest. He urged individuals who received their first shot at least eight weeks ago to get their second dose now. He also urged those who have not received their first dose of the vaccine to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

President Solih launched the nationwide vaccination campaign on February 1, intending to inoculate the entire population against COVID-19. Administering the second dose was initiated on April 3.

There are 9 vaccination centres and 2 mobile teams working under the inoculation drive in the Greater Male’ Region, and 237 vaccination centres active in the atolls. Vaccines are provided free of charge for locals and expatriates. Under the inoculation drive, over 246,000 people have received the first dose of the vaccine and over 3,700 people have received the second dose.

In addition to the Covishield vaccine, the Maldives Food and Drug Authority has also authorised the use of the Sinopharm vaccine and the Pfizer vaccine for use against COVID-19 in the Maldives.
