Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has commenced the project to establish a water supply system in Hangnaameedhoo, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.
The project was launched by Managing Director of MWSC Hassan Shah, Director of MWSC Board Ibrahim Anwar and Deputy Managing Director of National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) Rugiyya Mohamed. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Managing Director Shah assured MWSC is the most qualified when it comes to providing services related to water and sewerage. Shah added the water system in Hangnameedhoo will be developed by utilising world class equipment. He noted MWSC will aim to develop the system in a sustainable manner although the system is designed to last for 15 to 20 years.
Speaking further, Shah revealed the pipes will reach each household enabling the supply of clean water to the households. He said the aim is to complete the project as earliest as possible even though the project is expected to be completed in September this year.
As part of the project, MWSC will develop two water plants with the capacity to generate 37 tonnes of water per day, install two water storages with a capacity of 200 tonnes to store water generated from the plants and develop a rain water storage system with a capacity 503 tonnes. MWSC said water will be sourced from 30 or 40 metres below the ground using boreholes.
