Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced the harbour development project in Maalhos, Alifu Alifu Atoll.
The project was launched by CEO of MTCC Adam Azim, President of Maalhos Island Council Ismail Naseer and Parliamentarian Hassan Zareer. The project been contracted to MTCC by Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on November 10, last year.
The project includes dredging and excavation of 24,335-cubic-metres, construction of a 394-metre quay wall, construction of a 407-metre breakwater, construction of a 56-metre groyne, establishing 100-metres of revetment and the development of 1,970-square-metres of harbour pavement. MTCC said the cost of the project is USD 3.68 million and is expected to be completed within 360 days.
Speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the project, CEO Azim said the harbor in Maalhos is one of the largest harbours to be developed by MTCC. He expressed hope to complete the project in accordance with the schedule, revealing there are 54 projects currently undertaken by MTCC across the country.
