Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted road development projects in another three islands of the Maldives.
The projects contracted on April 8 were road development projects in Hoarafushi in Haa Alifu Atoll, Hinnavaru in Lhaviyani Atoll and Thinadhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. Contracts for the projects were signed at a special function held at the Planning Ministry.
The road development project in Hoarafushi was contracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for USD 4.7 million. The project was contracted on a design-and-build basis, and involves asphalt paving 5.3 kilometres of roads, installing street lights and a stormwater drainage system in the roads. The duration of the project is 16 months.
The road development project in Hinnavaru was contracted to Road Development Corporation (RDC). The project in Hinnavaru involves asphalt paving 7.1 kilometres of roads, along with the installation of street lights and a drainage system. The project was contracted for a price of USD 7.9 million, to be completed in 17 months.
Meanwhile, the road development project in Thinadhoo was also contracted to RDC. The project involves asphalt paving 6.5 kilometres of roads, along with the installation of street lights and a drainage system. The project was contracted for a price of USD 5 million, to be completed in 15 months.
MTCC and RDC are the two main contractors working on the development of roads in islands. The two companies are currently undertaking several road development projects across the Maldives.
