Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed 203 new COVID-19 cases were detected in the Maldives on April 18, taking the total number of cases recorded in the country to 26,348.
As per the latest statistics of HPA, 203 new cases were detected in the Maldives between 1800hrs of April 17 and 1800hrs of April 18. This includes 115 cases from the Greater Male' Region, 70 cases from inhabited islands in atolls, and 18 cases from operational resorts.
With the latest update, the total number of cases reported in the Maldives has risen to 26,348 including 2,678 active cases. There are currently 60 COVID-19 patients undergoing treatment in hospitals or medical facilities. So far, a total of 69 people have passed away from COVID-19 in the Maldives, including 61 locals and 8 expatriates.
Meanwhile, under the inoculation drive, 279,302 people had received the first dose of the vaccine and 40,230 people had received the second dose as of April 17, 2021. Maldives is currently utilising Covishield, Sinopharm and Pfizer vaccine for the inoculation of the first dose. The vaccination programme is conducted at 11 centres and by 4 mobile vaccination teams in the Greater Male' Region in addition to 240 vaccination centres across the atolls.
