Residential buildings to be developed in two areas of Male’

Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Limited has announced a project to develop residential buildings in two areas of Male’ City.

The corporation, which was established to oversee the government’s housing projects, issued an announcement on April 22 seeking contractors to develop 14-storey mixed residential buildings in two areas of Male’. The corporation stated the project will be carried out under a development-and-sale model.

The two areas allocated for the project are blocks 307 and 319 of Male’ City. Block 307 has a total area of 231,073 square feet, while Block 319 has a total area of 173,229 square feet.

Fahi Dhirulhun Corporation stated proposals for the development of mixed residential buildings in the two blocks will be accepted from both local and foreign contractors. The corporation said separate proposals must be submitted for each block.

Bid security has been allocated as USD 32,370 for local parties and USD 100,000 for foreign parties. Deadline for the submission of proposals is June 16.

The project was announced soon after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih revealed plans to conduct housing projects in vacant plots of land in Male’ City. In a press conference held on April 12, President Solih said the government plans to utilise vacant plots of land in Male’ for housing projects as part of efforts to resolve the issues relevant to the lack of adequate housing in the capital. He added the government is formulating a plan to ensure fast construction of social housing units in Male’.

There have been no social housing projects in Male’ since 2008. All social housing projects launched since then have been conducted in Hulhumale’.
