Maldives reports 465 new COVID-19 cases, as situation worsens in atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed 465 people tested positive for COVID-19 on April 30, making it the highest count of positive cases in the Maldives in one day.

The 465 new cases reported on April 30 topped the previous single-day record of 464 cases reported just two days earlier. As per the latest update, 193 new cases were detected from the Greater Male' Region on April 30, along with 242 cases from inhabited islands in atolls, and 25 cases from operational resorts.

There are currently 4,978 active cases in the country, including 146 patients admitted in hospitals or medical facilities. So far, 73 people have passed away from COVID-19 in the Maldives.

Sharing the latest updates on COVID-19 vaccination, HPA revealed a total of 296,529 individuals have received the first dose of the vaccine and 101,346 have received the second dose of the vaccine in the Maldives. Maldives is currently administering Covishield and Sinopharm vaccines to the general public, while Pfizer vaccines are only given to registered individuals by appointment.

The spread of COVID-19 has worsened in the Maldives once again in recent weeks, especially in the atolls. There are currently 23 islands under monitoring across the atolls, including six islands where more than 100 cases have been reported.
