A’Level exams cancelled due to leak of papers

Ministry of Education has decided to cancel the Edexcel A’Level examinations of April/May 2021 in the Maldives due to leak of several exam papers online.

Speaking at a press conference held on May 3 to announce the cancellation of A’Level examinations, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali said the integrity of the exams were compromised with the leak of papers on online platforms. The minister said the decision to cancel the exams was taken upon consultation with Edexcel.

The education minister further stated students taking part in the A’Level exams can choose to take the October/November exams, or go for a teacher based assessment. The minister said students who choose teacher-based assessment will be evaluated through a special exam prepared in accordance to Edexcel standards. She said students who choose the teacher-based assessment will also receive Edexcel graded certificates.

The A'Level examinations began with 2,821 students in the Maldives on April 26, including 1,890 school students from the Greater Male' Area, and 931 students from schools in the atolls. Previously, the exam had been set to begin on May 5 and to end on June 17. However, Edexcel brought some changes to its A2 and AS exams, moving the exams ahead of the previous schedule.
