The daily number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives has hit a new record once again, with 585 new cases reported on May 3.
This was the second consecutive day where the single day tally of COVID-19 hit a new record in the Maldives. On May 2, the Maldives recorded in excess of 500 cases in a single day for the first time, with 508 new cases.
As per the update shared by Health Protection Agency (HPA), most cases reported in the past 24 hours were from the Greater Male' Region. As such, 397 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the Greater Male' Region in the past 24 hours. In addition, 160 tested positive from atolls, 11 people tested positive from resorts, 15 people tested positive from industrial islands and 2 people from islands under development.
The latest statistics from HPA revealed the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives has risen to 31,330, including 6,033 active cases, 25,214 recoveries, and 74 deaths.
The spread of COVID-19 has worsened in the Maldives once again in recent weeks, especially in the atolls. This past week has seen a record surge of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives.
