Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has revealed all ICU beds in the DH-11 Facility of Dharumavantha Hospital have been occupied amid the increase in COVID-19 cases.
Speaking in a press conference of HEOC, Physician at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) Dr. Mohamed Ali said DH-11 is fully occupied, adding 9 patients have been admitted and 6 patients are put on ventilator. He revealed a pregnant woman's health is deteriorating and might need to be put on ventilator as well. He noted this is the first time a pregnant woman's health is deteriorating to such an extent after testing positive for COVID-19.
Revealing more about the admitted patients, the doctor said 3 patients are in very critical conditions of pneumonia. He also noted the lack of healthcare professionals to attend the growing number of patients.
Maldives has been recording unprecedented numbers of COVID-19 within the past week. Health professionals have advised the public to be more cautious about socialising and to keep the contact bubbles small, warning the spread of new COVID-19 variants.
