Five COVID-19 deaths confirmed in one day as cases continue to rise

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed five deaths from COVID-19 in the Maldives on May 6, taking the COVID-19 death toll to 79.

HPA revealed two people from Naifaru in Lhaviyani Atoll, two people admitted in Hulhumale’ Medical Facility (HMF) and one person under quarantine in Rasdhoo, Alifu Alifu Atoll had died from COVID-19 on May 6. This is the highest single-day count of COVID-19 deaths recorded in the Maldives.

Meanwhile, another 703 new cases were reported in the Maldives on May 6, including 526 new cases in the Greater Male’ Region, 167 cases in inhabited islands, 7 cases from operational resorts and 3 cases in industrial islands. There are currently, 7,607 active cases in the country including 203 patients who have been hospitalised.
