Quarantine period extended to 14 days

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has extended the mandatory quarantine period for travellers to 14 days.

Considering the then situation of COVID-19, HPA had reduced the initial 14-day quarantine period to 10 days from December 4, 2020 onwards. In a circular signed by Director General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru, HPA revealed changes are being brought to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives. In this regard, HPA said individuals travelling from Male' to islands or from resorts to islands, as well as individuals returning to the Maldives from abroad, will be required to undergo quarantine for 14 days, starting from May 7 until announced otherwise. HPA has advised to fully comply with the measures and precautions when travelling if required.

The measures imposed were changed due to the significant increase of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives. Due to the sharp rise in cases, a curfew has been imposed from 2100 hours to 0400 hours in the Greater Male' Region. Curfews have also been announced in Addu, Fuvahmulah and five other islands across the Maldives.
