Universities and colleges shift to online classes, tuition classes closed

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has ordered all universities, colleges and training institutes across Maldives to shift for online classes as part of the efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19. HPA has also ordered all tuition classes to shut off until announced otherwise.

Universities, colleges and training institutes were ordered to be shifted online and tuition classes were closed under the discretionary powers vested in the Director General of Public Health under Section 34 of the 7/2012 Public Health Act, to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Maldives. HPA appealed to all universities, colleges and training institutes and tuition classes, Quran classes and daycare centres in Greater Male' region to follow the orders to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Several measures are being taken across Maldives to contain the spread of COVID-19 amid the record surge in new cases. Maldives set a new highest single-day tally for cases on May 7, with 766 new cases. Meanwhile, COVID-19 deaths have also started to rise sharply, with 9 deaths confirmed across the past three days.\
