Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has decided to change Hulhumale' Hospital to a 120-bed COVID-19 facility.
Speaking at a press conference at the HEOC, Director of Health Protection Agency (HPA) Ahmed Nasir said the decision to downgrade Hulhumale' Hospital to a COVID-19 facility was made due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases. Director Nasir said the separate building at Hulhumale' Hospital will be used to treat COVID-19 patients after increasing the bed capacity to 120. He said Hulhumale' Hospital will continue providing the same treatments and services even after being changed to a COVID-19 facility. He noted around 80% of the beds in the Hulhumale' COVID-19 Facility are occupied.
Also at the press conference, Dr. Mohamed Ismail said the ICU at Dharumavantha Hospital is full and that 65% of the patients are under 40 years old. He warned the number of young people becoming severely ill due to COVID-19 is increasing.
The latest update from HPA shows 250 patients are being treated at hospitals, out of which five patients are being treated in the ICU and three are on ventilator support.
