Health Protection Agency (HPA) has extended the curfew imposed in Addu City, Fuvahmulah City and Gan, Laamu atoll to contain further spread of COVID-19.
HPA has been strengthening the measures imposed across the country to curb the spread of COVID-19 over the escalating situation of community spread. As such, upon detection of COVID-19 cases, over 40 islands have been put under monitoring while stricter measures are imposed in islands with the risk of a community spread.
Similar to the Greater Male' Region, a curfew has now been imposed from 1600hrs to 0400hrs in Addu, Fuvahmulah and Gan for a period of one week. Initially, a curfew was imposed in Addu and Fuvahmulah from 1800hrs to 0400hrs and travelling from one district to another was prohibited. HPA has advised to refrain from visiting households and prohibited gatherings of more than three people.
Moreover, a curfew has been imposed in Villingili, Gaafu Alifu Atoll to strengthen the measures against COVID-19. A circular signed and issued by Director General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru stated a curfew will be imposed in Villingili from 1600hrs to 0400hrs until May 26. Gatherings, parties and unnecessary movements are prohibited in the island similar to the measures imposed in cities.
