Students of schools in islands under monitoring to undergo teacher-based assessment

Ministry of Education has revealed students of schools in islands under monitoring due to the spread of COVID-19 will be undergoing a teacher-based assessment rather than attending school for exams.

Speaking at a press conference, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali said students of schools where classes are still conducted online due to the COVID-19 situation will not be required to physically attend school for the end-of-semester exams. The minister said such students will undergo a teacher-based assessment for evaluation purposes. However, she noted students of other schools will be required to take their exams in school.

The education minister further noted arrangements will be made to assess students who test positive for COVID-19 during their exams, as per the assessment policies set by the ministry. The minister said such students will not be taking their exams in school as it could pose a risk for other students. However, she noted special arrangements were made for COVID-19 positive students taking their O’Level and A’Level exams, as these exams are more crucial for the students.

All schools in the Greater Male’ Region are conducting their classes online due to the COVID-19 situation in the capital. In addition, schools in 73 islands placed under monitoring are also conducting online classes.
