Students to receive books for the new academic year by June 24

Ministry of Education has stated students will receive books for the new academic year by June 24.

Speaking at a press conference, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali shared details of the ongoing preparations for the new academic year, which is set to begin in August. As such, the minister said admission of students for the new academic year is already ongoing, while distribution of books for students of schools in Male’ and the atolls are also underway. She noted all students will receive books for the new academic year by June 24, which is the last day of the current academic year.

Speaking on some of the projects currently carried out by the ministry, the education minister said new schools are being built in Hulhumale’ Phase II, which is being newly populated. She added the construction of the new building of Dharumavantha School in Male’ is also ongoing at a fast pace.

Major changes have been brought to the academic calendar due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, the academic year now begins in August as opposed to January, and ends in June. The new academic year of 2021 begins on August 10, 2021 and ends on June 30, 2022.
