Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has revealed there are currently 16 COVID-19 patients admitted in ICU, including 7 patients placed on ventilator support.
As per the latest statistics published by HEOC, a total of 146 patients have been hospitalised for COVID-19 treatment in the Maldives. This includes 16 patients admitted in ICU, with 7 of them placed on ventilator support.
The majority of hospitalised COVID-19 patients are admitted in Hulhumale’ Medical Facility (HMF), with 82 patients currently undergoing treatment at the facility. This includes 5 patients admitted in ICU, with two of them on ventilator support.
Meanwhile, 19 patients have been hospitalised at Dharumavantha Hospital across its DH11, DH16, DH17, Hiyala Wing and private ward facilities. 9 people are currently admitted in ICU at the DH11 facility.
HEOC revealed another 17 patients are admitted in the COVID-19 facility in Hulhumale’ Hospital, while 5 patients are admitted in ADK Hospital. A further 17 patients are being treated in the COVID-19 facilities established in atolls, including 10 in Shaviyani Atoll Funadhoo, 3 in Addu City, 2 in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Thinadhoo and one each in Gaafu Alifu Atoll Villingili and Baa Atoll Eydhafushi.
HEOC also publicised details of the COVID-19 deaths recorded during the latest surge of cases in the country. In this regard, HEOC revealed 111 people have passed away from COVID-19 within the past five weeks.
80% of the patients who died from COVID-19 were undergoing treatment for underlying medical conditions. As such, they were suffering from conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease and stroke among others. However, 21 patients who died during this period had not been suffering from any underlying conditions. This represents 18.9% of the deaths during this period.
HEOC further revealed 68 of the 111 patients who died from COVID-19 within the past five weeks did not receive any dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. 24 of them completed one dose, while 8 of them had completed both doses.
