Solar power systems to be established in 14 islands under ARISE

Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology has revealed solar power systems are set to be established in 14 islands across the Maldives, as part of the Accelerating Renewable-Energy Integration and Sustainable Energy (ARISE) project.

The ARISE project is conducted in the Maldives under grant assistance from the World Bank. The environment ministry said 11-14 MW solar power systems are to be established in 14 islands as part of the project, including 10 islands of Laamu Atoll. The solar power systems will be established in Gan, Hithadhoo, Maamendhoo, Kunahandhoo, Maabaidhoo, Dhanbidhoo, Maavah, Isdhoo and Kalaidhoo in Laamu Atoll, as well as Villingili in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Kudahuvadhoo in Dhaalu Atoll, Funadhoo in Shaviyani Atoll and Naifaru in Lhaviyani Atoll.

Ministry of Finance has opened application for prequalification of parties interested in establishing the solar power systems under a build-finance-own-operate-transfer policy. Prequalification application is open until September 9, 2021.

The aim of the ARISE project is to increase generation capacity from renewable energy sources and facilitate their integration into the grid infrastructure of the Maldives. The project is carried out for a 5-year period, starting from 2021.
