First Lady discusses broadening role of women in city development

First Lady Fazna Ahmed has discussed broadening the role of women in city development, with the members of Kulhudhuffushi City's Women's Development Committee (WDC). The discussion was held during a meeting with members of the Kulhudhuffushi WDC during the first couple's visit to Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

At the meeting, First Lady Fazna Ahmed and the committee members held discussions regarding the concerns and challenges in the operation of the committee as well as their plans for the future. Also at the meeting, WDC members shared ideas and concerns with First Lady Fazna and highlighted the need to create a platform to sell food products produced by women, and improving the opportunities for women in sports and higher education.

First Lady Fazna listened to the concerns and shared her insight on addressing the challenges voiced by the Kulhudhuffushi WDC and encouraged them to proceed with a strategic plan and collaborate with other institutions to attain their goals.

During the visit to Haa Dhaalu Atoll, First Lady Fazna Ahmed and Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali visited the Family and Children's Service Centre (FCSC) in Kulhudhuffushi City and met with senior officials of the centre. First Lady Fazna and Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali held extensive discussions with the senior officials, where the First Lady inquired on the challenges they face in managing the centre and discussed ways to improve overall efficiency and increase capacity building for the staff at the facility. Before concluding her visit, First Lady Fazna Ahmed planted a tree at the centre, assisted by one of the children.

Kulhudhuffushi FCSC was inaugurated in 2007 as part of a joint government venture with the United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in an initiative to decentralise social protection services.
