MPS to take action against travellers violating HPA guidelines

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has stated it will take action against individuals who violate the guidelines set by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) while travelling between islands.

The government has eased travel restrictions due to the decrease in COVID-19 cases across the country. As such, individuals are allowed to travel from one island to another 14 days after they complete their vaccine doses and if they test negative for COVID-19 prior to travelling.

Individuals who have recovered from COVID-19 are also allowed to travel within 60 days of their recovery. However, there have been public complaints about travellers violating the guidelines.
Regarding these complaints, MPS stated it will investigate reports of individuals violating the HPA guidelines when travelling between the islands and take the necessary action. Checking whether travellers are following the guidelines is the responsibility of the councils, reminded MOS.

The councils are responsible for checking travellers for vaccination cards and the date of the completion of their doses, according to the regulations. However, some councils have stated it was difficult to check all travellers due to the high number of individuals arriving on the islands.

The high number of travellers is due to residents of the Greater Male' Region travelling to the islands for the holidays.
