Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed only 14 islands are currently under monitoring across the Maldives due to COVID-19.
HPA has removed several islands from monitoring in recent weeks as COVID-19 cases continue to decrease across the country. As such, the number of islands under monitoring has reduced to 14, having been as high as 74 during the peak of the COVID-19 outbreak in May.
HPA has recently removed the linked wards of Addu City from monitoring. Islands currently under monitoring include Dhihdhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll, Thinadhoo and Nadella in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Villingili and Kooddoo in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Thoddoo and Rasdhoo in Alifu Alifu Atoll, Vaadhoo and Meedhoo in Raa Atoll, Guraidhoo and Kaashidhoo in Kaafu Atoll, Foakaidhoo in Shaviyani Atoll, Feeali in Faafu Atoll and Fuvahmulah City.
HPA has eased many COVID-19 restrictions in recent weeks due to the decrease in cases. As such, individuals who have completed two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been permitted to travel from Male’ to other islands during the Eid holidays, without the need to quarantine. However, HPA has urged the public to exercise caution and take the necessary personal safety measures, despite the ease in restrictions.
