Ministry of Education has announced foreign teachers arriving in the Maldives are required to undergo five days of quarantine. The education ministry announced the decision via letters to the senior management of the schools.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) recently announced work permit holders are exempt from undergoing quarantine upon arrival to the Maldives. Work permit holders are required to have a negative PCR result that was obtained 72 hours prior to their arrival to the Maldives and need to have completed their vaccine doses 14 days prior to their arrival, HPA stated in the announcement. However, the education ministry stated island councils have expressed concern over foreign teachers arriving in the Maldives and going to school without undergoing quarantine.
After discussions with the education ministry, HPA has decided to impose a five-day quarantine for foreign teachers upon arriving in the Maldives. The new regulation states foreign teachers will be able to go to work after they receive a negative result from a PCR test taken after the quarantine period.
The education ministry has also stated that all school employees are required to complete the COVID-19 vaccine doses before the start of the new academic year.
