MTCC completes shore protection project in Henbadhoo

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced it has completed the shore protection project in Henbadhoo, Noonu Atoll.

MTCC completed the design and construction of the shore protection structures on August 2 at a cost of USD 342,000. The scope of the project included backfilling and levelling of 5000 cubic metres of sand, construction of a 25-metre groyne, a 235-metre rock boulder revetment, and placing geotextiles of 235 metres, stated MTCC.

Speaking to PSM News, President of Henbadhoo Island Council Hussain Abubakur said Henbadhoo is a small island with a large part of the land being used for housing and public services, and that erosion had caused damages to the buildings near the shoreline. He said the shore protection project was crucial for the residents as 1,800 feet of the shore on the northeastern side of the island had already eroded.
