Schools to facilitate vaccination of students who recently graduated

Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has revealed students under the age of 17 who recently finished school can get their COVID-19 vaccine through their former schools.

Speaking at a press conference, Spokesperson of HEOC Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq noted the final preparations are ongoing to begin administering the Pfizer vaccine to school students between the age of 12 and 17. The spokesperson said students of this age who have finished school can get vaccinated through their former schools. She noted schools will notify the students when to get vaccinated, adding vaccination will be carried out at the respective vaccination centres in each island or region.

Earlier this week, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced the COVID-19 vaccination of all children aged 12-17 will commence next week. The president revealed the state has successfully acquired enough doses of the vaccine to immunise all children in the Maldives aged 12-17 years. He also noted the Maldives has now successfully acquired enough doses of the vaccine to inoculate the entire population.

HEOC revealed children aged 12-17 will be administered the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. On August 9, the Maldives received 128,700 doses of Pfizer vaccine donated by the US government through the COVAX Facility.
