MTCC begins upgrade of Hithadhoo old harbour

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced the fieldwork of the project to upgrade the old harbour in Hithadhoo, Addu City.

The project to upgrade Hithadhoo old harbour was contracted to MTCC on April 1. The project, worth USD 3.4 million, includes the construction of 284-metre concrete quay wall, 800-metre breakwater and 1,420 metres of pavement. The project also includes installation of harbour lights and navigational lights.

The old harbour of Hithadhoo is being upgraded to increase the capacity of the harbour in providing services to large vessels. The harbour upgrade is expected to be beneficial for fishing boats as well as vessels coming into acquire ice from the Hithadhoo Ice Plant.
