Over USD 100 million spent on development projects so far this year

Ministry of Finance has revealed over USD 100 million has been spent by the government on development projects so far this year.

As per the latest statistics of the finance ministry, the government has spent on projects across 12 different sectors this year. Projects in the transport sector had the largest expenditure, with over USD 25 million spent for the sector so far this year. This includes USD 16 million spent on harbour development and repair projects.

Meanwhile, the government has spent over USD 21 million on water and sewerage projects so far this year. This is already an 11% increase to the USD 19 million spent on water and sewerage projects throughout 2020.

Furthermore, the government has spent USD 17 million on projects related to land reclamation and road development. This includes USD 11 million spent on road development projects in the atolls.

The government has allocated USD 544 million in the 2021 State Budget for Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) projects. This is a 41% increase to the figure allocated for PSIP projects last year.
