President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced 30 scholarships will be offered to develop human resources in mental health care.
Speaking at the ceremony held to launch the National Skills Development Masterplan for the next five years, President Solih said the administration prioritised cutting down state expenses and continuing human resource development works despite the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, the president with delight highlighted the student loan programme, free first-degree grant scheme and the president's scholarship, as well as high achiever scholarships, were continued without interruption during the pandemic.
Furthermore, President Solih acknowledged the importance to develop human resources in all areas with the development the Maldives is attaining in all sectors. Human resources are limited in many social and economic spheres, emphasising that mental health is one such area that requires special attention, stated president. In this regard, he announced 30 scholarship opportunities will be offered in the area of clinical psychology, professional counselling and addiction studies.
Moreover, the president expressed hope to continue education opportunities for the students and youth noting human resource development is a priceless future investment.
