Tourist arrivals increase 3.1% in August

Ministry of Tourism has revealed the tourist arrivals to the Maldives have increased by 3.1% in August compared to 2019.

143,599 tourists arrived in the Maldives in August this year, which is an increase of 3.1% compared to the 139,338 arrivals recorded in August 2019, according to statistics publicised by the tourism ministry. This is the most arrivals recorded in a single month this year.

As per statistics from the tourism ministry, 92,103 tourists arrived in January, followed by 96,882 and 109,585 tourist arrivals recorded in February and March, respectively. Meanwhile, 91,200 arrivals were recorded in April and 64,613 arrivals were recorded in May. However, the tourist arrivals saw a significant decrease in June due to a spike in COVID-19 cases in the Maldives. As such, 56,166 tourist arrivals were recorded in June, followed by 101,818 arrivals recorded in July.

755,966 tourist arrivals have been recorded this year with an average of 4,639 daily arrivals in recent days, showed statistics.

As per the latest publications, the highest number of arrivals to the Maldives were recorded from Russia with a total of 159,873. The second highest arrivals were from India with 157,289 arrivals and the third most arrivals were from Germany with 43,833.
