MACL denies claims jet fuel prices rose due to supply shortage

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has stated the recent changes brought to jet fuel prices were not caused by a shortage of jet fuel supply to the Maldives.

MACL revealed although the company’s jet fuel supplier has been facing some difficulties in supplying fuel, the latest changes announced to the prices were not related to a limited supply. MACL said the prices rose due to the changes to fuel prices in the international market. The airline refuted claims by some media outlets that the company is facing a shortage of jet fuel.

MACL further stated the company maintains a good stock of fuel, and would not be facing any immediate difficulties even if the supplier is unable to provide jet fuel in the normal quantities. The company said it is confident there would be no interruptions to airport operations despite the difficulties faced by the jet fuel supplier.
