Ministry of Higher Education has announced it has opened the opportunity to apply for fully-funded Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Scholarships.
The ministry announced that it will accept applications for 46 fully-funded scholarships. The scholarships for mental health studies are part of the National Skill Development Master Plan.
The higher education ministry stated the Maldives currently has a high demand for mental health professionals and the purpose of providing the scholarship opportunity is to increase mental health professionals in the Greater Male' Region and the atolls. Under the programme, students who complete their scholarship will be allocated to a state institution and assigned to work in a given position for a period of time.
Speaking to PSM News, Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan said the government is focused on increasing the number of professionals in various fields. Regarding the mental health scholarships, the minister said the selected students will get to choose their desired course and university from 16 countries. He also highlighted the importance of increasing the number of mental health professionals in order to meet the current demands quickly.
The ministry advised interested individuals who meet the requirements and criteria set by their desired university to submit their applications before 1330hrs, on October 4.
