HPA to administer booster doses to high risk individuals

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has decided to administer booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to high risk individuals.

HPA revealed it will be administering a booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine to high risk individuals who have completed two doses of any COVID-19 vaccine. HPA revealed it will begin administering booster doses starting from October 3.

HPA said booster doses will be administered to individuals who have underlying illnesses and a weak immune system that could complicate a COVID-19 infection. The agency added booster doses will be administered to individuals who received their second dose atleast six months ago.

HPA revealed booster doses will be administered in ADK Hospital, Hulhumale’ Hospital and Villimale’ Hospital. The agency said ADK Hospital and Hulhumale’ Hospital will be administering the booster doses between 0900hrs and 1400hrs everyday, while Villimale’ Hospital will be administering the booster doses between 1000hrs and 1200hrs everyday. HPA stated individuals eligible to receive the booster shots can book their appointments through the designated portal on its website.

Maldives began its nationwide COVID-19 vaccination programme on February 1 this year. So far, over 392,000 people have received at least one dose and over 338,000 people have received two doses of the vaccine.
